If I receive money from abroad do I have to pay taxes?

You do not have to pay further taxes for receiving money from abroad in Spain but any transfer that exceeds certain limits must be declared to the relevant authorities.

How much money can you send to Spain from abroad without having to declare it?

In Spain, the maximum transfer amount, before having to declare it, is set at 10,000 €. If you receive a transfer over this amount, you must inform the Spanish Treasury by using the Tax Agency’s Model S1 form. The Treasury will also control any cash operations carried out with 500 € banknotes, as well as cash payments and pickups over 3000 €.

What exchange rate does Western Union apply to my transfers?

Western Union calculates the exchange rate3 based on commercially available interbank rates plus a margin. Most exchange rates3 are adjusted several times a day in line with the relevant closing rates of global financial markets.
