What is the Refer a Friend program and how does it work?

Refer a Friend is a program that lets you earn rewards when you invite friends to send money with Western Union. Once your friends complete all the requirements, you both receive rewards.

How do I qualify for the program?

To be eligible:

  • Share your referral link from westernunion.com or the Western Union® app.
  • Make sure your friend completes all required steps.
  • Your friend must not already have a profile on wu.com or the app.

How many friends can I refer?

You can share your referral link with as many friends as you want (18+). Rewards are limited to the maximum set by Western Union. Log in to your account to check the limit.

How will I receive my reward?

Rewards are sent to the email address linked to your profile.

When will I receive my reward?

Processing usually takes minutes but can take up to 15 business days after all requirements are met.

Does my reward expire?

Yes. Rewards expire 6 months after processing. You’ll receive a reminder 14 days before expiration.

What are my reward options?

Check your email for redemption instructions or log in to view options on the Refer a Friend page.

You’ll receive a referral link to share via email or social media.

Can I redeem my rewards for cash?

No. Rewards cannot be redeemed for cash, transferred, sold, or bartered.

What if I haven’t received my reward?

Confirm the following:

  • Your friend used your referral link.
  • All requirements are completed.
  • At least 15 business days have passed.
  • Check your email (including spam/junk folders).
